May Marie Vuignier
(nee Sheptycki)
1935 - 2024
It is with much sadness that the family of May Vuignier announces her peaceful passing on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at the Portage District General Hospital, at the age of 89.
She is lovingly remembered by her seven children: René (Wanda), Jeannette, Denise (Brent), Roger (Ginette), Cécile (Fernand), Monique (Chris), Michel (Margaret) and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Louis; her parents Michael and Nellie Sheptycki; her sister Annie and brother Johnny (Lorraine) and son-in-law Lionel.
Mom was born on the Kustra family farm in Saint-Claude on August 17, 1935. She was raised on the Sheptycki family farm and attended Kenneth Country School in Rathwell. She met and married Louis in 1953. Together they raised their seven children on the farm in Saint-Claude. Mom moved to Saint-Claude Village in 2000 and enjoyed maintaining her numerous flower beds and houseplants. The vibrant colours of her flowers brought her much joy and happiness. She was deeply connected to her community as a longtime volunteer at the Saint-Claude Gaol Museum. Mom enjoyed her lunch outings with friends at the local restaurant in Saint-Claude. She built a life filled with love, family, and fun. Mom adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always looked forward to family gatherings where she would find herself surrounded by love and laughter.
Our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Portage District General Hospital for their loving care for Mom. Thank you to all those involved in the care of Mom who contributed to her independence so she could successfully enjoy living in her own home in Saint-Claude.
Special thanks to her caregivers: Mona Leduc, Linda Labossiere, Jacqueline Bazin, Shelley Dubois, Faida Bernard, Brigitte Henderson, Janice Chevrier and Andy Chevrier.
