Melvyn Ferris
In loving memory of a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Farmer, who found immense joy in the simplicity of life and the beauty of nature. His love for farming was complemented by his deep affection for his family, relatives and friends, everyone treated with kindness and respect, reflecting the values he held dear.
Beyond the farm, he cherished the moments spent with his family. His sons became the focus of his life as they grew, each milestone; whether it was their first steps, their first bike ride, first day of school, a hockey game, became significant markers on a journey they were navigating together. He always found himself at the sidelines, cheering them on, his heart swelling with pride. In those instances, he realized that their triumphs were as crucial to his happiness as his own accomplishments.
No matter what his boys were doing he was there to support them with a sense of pride that only a father can understand. Years later, Mel was able to once again experience that pride, this time with his grandson Bailey. The absolute light of his life, he loved every minute he could spend with Bailey, whether it was watching his hockey games, or any sport he played. Watching Bailey grow into a fine young man, no grandfather has ever been so proud. Many days and evenings spent on the farm and later in Carman with relatives and friends, dinners, BBQ’s, chatting over coffee, Mel always enjoyed those times and valued the memories.
He also had a passion for hunting and fishing, activities that brought him peace and a connection to the great outdoors. These experiences were not just hobbies, but cherished moments spent with family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
After retiring from farming, Mel was the host at the Kings Park campground. He truly enjoyed this part of his life, spending time with friends and making new ones.
He is survived by his beloved sons, Michael and Kendall Ferris, who carry forward his spirit and legacy. Though he has been preceded in death by his wife Olive, it is comforting to know they are together again.
Mel’s love and impact remain in the hearts of those who knew him. May his memory be a source of comfort and strength for all who miss him.
He leaves to mourn his passing his two sons, Michael and Kendall Ferris and his grandson Bailey (mother Jocelyne Toupin). He is also survived by his sister Gayle (Bernard) Gehring and sister-in-law Gail Holmes along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mel was predeceased by his wife Olive (nee Holmes), his parents Selwyn and Jean Ferris, his twin brother at birth, his sister Verla (Cliff) Olson, his parents-in-law Charlie and Esther Holmes, and brothers-in-law Larry (Gayle) Holmes and Doug (Gladys) Holmes.
