Norman Fleury

It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic passing of Norman Gary Fleury on December 11, 2016 at the age of 62.

He leaves to mourn his loss, Yvonne; his sons, Greg (Tami) and Jeff (Tara); his grandchildren, Cohen, Harper, Braeden and Lydie; Tara’s daughters, Tesa and Nyshell; his mother Laura May Laramee; his brothers, Lawrence and Mike (Phyllis); his sister Angie (Rick); his nieces, Krystyna and Danielle and nephew Sean. He also leaves his aunts, Evelyn Dowhaniuk, Anita (Al) Simpson, Irene Bouchard, Florence Fleury; and uncle Adrien Lachance as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and  friends.

Norman was predeceased by his father Alex in 1974; brother Richard in 1999 and step-father Leo Laramee in 2014.

Norman was born on September 28, 1954 at Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg.

He attended schools in St. James and then took a welding and machinist course. He also learned mechanical skills, as a youth, while  working with his dad who was a mechanic by trade.

When Alex and Laura May moved to Montreal in 1972, Norman stayed back and began his working career. In 1976, he started farming by renting his Uncle George Fleury’s farm. The farm originally belonged to his grandparents, Fred and Marie-Rose Fleury.

In 1977, Norman married Yvonne Massinon from Haywood and they lived in a mobile home on part of the original Fleury farm. From 1976 to 1979, while still farming, Norman worked at MacDon Industries during the winter months.

In 1979, Norman and Yvonne’s first son, Greg was born. In the same year, Norman went to work at Valmar Airflo in Elie while continuing to farm. He then started renting more land and in 1981 he left Valmar to farm fulltime. In 1981, Norman and Yvonne’s second son, Jeff was born. In 1993, Norman and Yvonne purchased 550 acres and a house on the farmyard where Yvonne currently resides.

Norman truly loved the rural life. Farming was his passion. He was always eager to get in the fields in the spring and to get the crop off in the fall. Norm loved talking about farming almost as much as farming itself.  As many of his friends, relatives and business acquaintances know he could talk on and on about anything or even nothing at all.

A small private graveside service will be held in the near future.
