We are sad to announce that husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother Raymond Tinguely, passed away peacefully after a short illness at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 96 years.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Jeannine (née Bégou), his children, Fr. Paul Tinguely, Charlotte (Jim), Charles (Thérèse), Lucille (Marc), Micheline, and Christine (Richard) along with 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Laurette Tinguely and sister-in-law Mabel Tinguely as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Raymond was predeceased by his parents, Jules and Marie Tinguely (née Augert), his brother Roger, and his parents-in-law Léopold and Augustine Bégou.
Raymond was born, raised, and married in Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba. He served in the Canadian Army with Lord Strathcona’s Horse from 1950 to 1953 and in the Korean War (1951-1952). He married Jeannine on August 1, 1953. Together they lived in Port Arthur (now known as Thunder Bay) then in Winnipeg where they raised their 6 children. Raymond was always physically strong and healthy playing hockey and baseball as a youth, and was employed in a variety of jobs that took him across Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, and Manitoba. He worked for many years as a shipper-receiver with Glidden Paints and as a custodian at Collège Universitaire de Saint Boniface until he retired in 1993. Raymond and his wife bought a hobby farm where they spent many summers enjoying the fresh air, tending to the garden, and visiting friends and relatives nearby. After retirement, Raymond and Jeannine travelled to various locations across Canada but particularly enjoyed their trip to France and Switzerland where they were able to retrace their family roots and connect with relatives.
The family would like to thank the staff at Manoir de la Cathedrale, Health Sciences Centre, and Victoria General Hospital.
