Rene Menard

René Yves Ménard

April 1, 1957 – July 29, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our brother, uncle and friend, René Yves Ménard on July 29, 2023 at his home, in Winnipeg, at the age of 66 years.

René was born on April 1,1957 and was the third of five children born to Léo and Yvonne (Masse) Ménard.  René spent his early years at the family farm in St. Eustache and when old enough helped his dad with the farm work during seeding and harvest.  René moved to Winnipeg in 1995, with his parents, and shared a home with them until their passing.  Saturday and Sunday mornings you would find René having breakfast at one of his favourite breakfast spots.

René had a variety of jobs over the years, but most of his working career was at Valmar Airflo/Salford in Elie where he was employed for over 30 years.

René’s love for sports was evident by the many games he attended over the years.  Whether it was the Blue Bombers, Winnipeg Jets, Manitoba Moose or Winnipeg Goldeyes he had season tickets and was there watching.  When not at a live game he was watching on television.  He was the ultimate sports fan!  Besides sports, René also enjoyed classic antique cars and antique farm machinery.  He enjoyed going to car shows and the Threshermen’s Reunion in Austin.

René enjoyed keeping in touch with his family and took an interest in the lives of his nieces and nephews.  He was always there for birthdays and celebrations.

René was predeceased by his parents Léo and Yvonne.  He leaves to mourn his siblings Madeleine Kunzler (Siegfried), Denise Whynot, Claude Menard (Cathy) and Carolyn Menard, eight nieces and nephews, Tanja, Nicole (Hermann), Michelle (Don), Andre (Michelle), Leanne (Thomas), Tyler (Roberta), Julie (Hung) and James (Stephanie), 14 great-nieces and nephews, Cassandra, Andrew (Brittany), Trinity, Kira, Liam, Leo, Sophie, Alexander, Benjamin, Conner, Jasmin, Sarah, Caitlyn and Liam.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at the St. Eustache Catholic Church at 1:30 p.m.  Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.
