Rolande Debusschere

(nee Le Roux)

Peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, Mrs. Rolande Debusschere of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away at the age of 75 years.

She leaves to mourn her passing three children, Evelyne Putulik of Winnipeg, Charles Debusschere (Heather) of Calgary and Marie-Lynne Debusschere (Ryan) of Winnipeg; five grandchildren, Nicole, Teresa, Braden, Tyler and Carter.  She also leaves to mourn her passing three sisters, Antoinette Vandal, Cecile Philippot and Odile Bergeron; three brothers, Henri Le Roux, Charles Le Roux and Remi (Mary) Le Roux; and numerous nieces and nephews, in-laws, relatives and friends.

Rolande was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward Debusschere in 2004; her parents Yves Le Roux and Marie Joseph (nee Gloux); and by three brothers-in-law, Henri Philippot, George Bergeron and Robert Vandal.

Rolande was born in St. Claude, MB on February 23, 1935.  At the age of 15 she moved to Winnipeg to begin working at the St. Boniface Hospital as a nursing assistant.  In 1959 she met her future husband Edward whom she married in 1961. Together they raised three children. Once her youngest child started school, mom returned to work for a number of years as a nurse’s aide in a personal care home and retired in 1998.

Her family and grandchildren were very special to her, and she enjoyed time spent at family gatherings. She loved playing bingo and going out for coffee at Salisbury House.  Mom and Dad loved to travel and the family spent many summers on road trips.  When dad died in 2004, she was devastated but continued to go out with family and friends.  She continued her travels to Calgary or Vegas when the opportunity arose.  She liked to play the quarter slots and on occasion was a lucky winner! Mom was well known for her smile and the “fleece mitt” she wore on her left hand for warmth. Faith was extremely important to mom. Her bible, prayer cards and rosary were a source of comfort and hope.

Funeral Services will be held in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 4588 Roblin Blvd, on Tuesday, June 22, 2010.  Viewing at 10 a.m., Recitation of the Rosary at 10:30, followed by Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. with Msgr Maurice Comeault officiating.  Cremation will follow and all are welcome to attend the interment in the Haywood Parish Cemetery at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Boniface Hospital Foundation (memo:  Palliative Care Endowment Fund), D1003-409 Tache Ave, Winnipeg, MB  R2H 2A6.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jowett of the Charleswood Medical Clinic and all of the doctors, nurses and support staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the St. Boniface Hospital for all their loving care and support.
