Sylvia Labossière
It is with deep regret the family announces the peaceful passing of our dear sister, aunt, great-aunt, and god-mother, at the age of 71 years old on January 17, 2009 at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care.
Sylvia Josephine Labossière, born June 10, 1937 at the farm 8-5-9- south of Somerset, to Alice (Pinette) and Adolphis Labossière.
She leaves behind four God-children: Michael Tymchuk, Norman Van De Spiegle, Arleen Labossiere and Loreen (Bercier) Crockett; three sisters: Angele Deschenes, Denise Mestdagh and Elodie (Camille) Van De Spiegle; three brothers: Andre, Denis (Germaine), Adelard (Denise); one sister in-law Yolande Dercksen; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves a special nephew Patrick (Sheila) Labossiere.
She was predeceased by her parents Adolphis (1960) and Alice (1980); five sisters: Isabelle D'Hoore (1986), Lucienne Labossiere (2004), Evelyne (2003), Germaine Tymchuk (1981) and Hilda Bercier (2005); two brothers: Romeo (1996) and Theodore (1986); her in-laws: Joseph Deschenes, Camiel D'Hoore, Albert Labossiere, Jean Grenier Alphonse Mestdagh, Doreen Labossiere, John Tymchuk, George Bercier and Gilberte Labossiere; nieces: Victoria , Georgina, Rose-Anne, Julie Bercier, Tara Grenier, Darleen Labossiere and Marilyne Smith; nephews: Darcy, Robert, Daniel Labossiere, Donald Grenier, Gordon Burnell, Gilbert Lahaie and Arnold Eckert.
Sylvia worked as a house-keeper for Keith Horn and Gilbert Desrochers, at Somerset. She also worked at Sioux Look-out Hotel with her sister Germaine. Then at the Marlborough Hotel in Winnipeg as a seamstress for 27 years. She moved back to Somerset quite a few years ago. She lived alone in a house until moving to the Somerset Manor 12 years ago. Her faith in the church was with her every day. She loved going to Bingo, and liked a good game of marbles. Sylvia moved to Winnipeg thee months ago to live with her oldest sister Angele. She then had to be admitted to Palliative Care at St. Boniface Hospital.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bruneau for his care and kindness. Also to Dr. Tan, Chowdhury at Cancer Care, Dr. Crowe, Blonde, Lariviere, Crawford and Garcia. at Palliative Care and all the nurses and staff. A great big thank you to her brother Andre for being there for her every morning 10-11. Her brother Adelard and Denise, her sister Angele for giving her a place to stay and to her sister Denise for all her visits. Also for all the visits from near and far. It made her last wishes come true. Thank you to the Cancer Care drivers Laurette, Maria, Donald, also Adrienne. Thank you for the home perms, haircuts, the bingo rides the car rides to the store, her friends at the Manor, the good meals. A big thank you to Anita for spending the night with Sylvia. Ilene for the sewing projects, Gail and Kelly for the lucky streak.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Notre Dame de la Nativite Catholic Church in Somerset on Friday, January 23, 2009 at 2 p.m. with Father Gabriel Leveque officiating. Interment will take place at Somerset cemetery with her parents Alice and Adolphis, brother Romeo and sister Hilda. Lunch will be served at the church hall.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Sylvia's memory to Palliative Care at St. Boniface Hospital.
