Thérèse Cabernel (nee Hutlet)

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mom, grandmother and great grandmother, Thérèse Cabernel on Thursday, November 8, 2012, at the Brandon Assiniboine Centre the age of 82 years.

Left to cherish her loving memory are her children:  Dan Cabernel (friend Kim), Diane (Donny) Marginet, Denis (Danielle) Cabernel, Doris (Sam) Hofer and Lynn (Darrell) Elder; 10 grandchildren: Michelle, Mel (Matt) TenBruggencate, Laura (Chris) Bowler, Travis (Jen) Hofer, Candice (Chester) Twomey, Sabrina Hofer, Trisha (Brad) Wall, Jillian Cabernel, Alundra Elder, Natasha Elder and great grandchildren Logan and Austin Wall.  She also leaves to mourn her sister Angele (Remi) Cabernel, brother Alex Hutlet, sister in law Julia Cabernel, brother in law Albert (Adele) Cabernel and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Thérèse was predeceased by her husband Gaston Cabernel (1992), her unnamed brother who died at birth (1940), triplet children Leon, Leona and Lionel (1957), her father Albert Hutlet (1957), her mother Alice Hutlet (nee Baccus) (1971), brother in law Marcel (1993), niece Shirley (1998) and grandson Jeffrey (2004).

Thérèse and Gaston raised their children on the family farm in Bruxelles.  They moved to Holland in 1981.  She moved from her house in Holland to the Manor in Holland in 2008.  In December 2011, when she required dialysis, she moved to Brandon and lived with and was cared for by her dear cousin and friend, Annette Fifi.

Mom had many talents including painting, cake decorating, knitting, sewing and she did many crafts too numerous to mention.  She enjoyed the many years that she played Baritone in the Bruxelles Brass Band and later with the Prairie Red Coats.  She took great pride in her garden and flower beds.  She had a wonderful sense of humor even in her final days.  She was sad to leave her many friends from Holland who were always so kind and helpful to her.

The family would like to the Dr. B.R. Riche and his staff at the Renal Clinic at the Brandon General Hospital for their thoughtful care over the past 4 years and to all the nurses and caregivers at the Brandon General Hospital, Assiniboine Centre and Palliative Care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Thérèse to the Kidney Foundation or charity of one’s choice.

Funeral Services will be held in the St. John Berchmans Roman Catholic Church in Holland, MB on Tuesday, November 13, 2012.  Recitation of the Rosary and music at 1:30, Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. followed by Interment in the Parish Cemetery with Father John Te Nguyen officiating.
