Thérèse (Terry) Delaquis

(née Lafrenière)

With heartfelt sadness and everlasting love we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.  Terry left us to become our angel in heaven on February 25, 2010, at the age of 79 years, at St. Boniface Hospital while enjoying one of her favourite pastimes, watching curling.

She is survived by her husband Jean Dequier; four children, Lea (Charlie) Marchand, Paulette Delaquis, Richard (Brigette) Delaquis and Gerald (Carol) Delaquis. She was very proud of her grandchildren, Stéphan (Natalie), Danika (Shawn), Tyler, Destini, Brittany, Cullee, Cory (Maria), Jared, Garett and great grandchildren, Mila, Xavier, Saige, Carys, Daryl Anna, Jaida and Ryder.  She also leaves to mourn her passing two brothers, Remi (Elizabeth) and Marc; one brother-in-law Duffy; two sisters-in-law Irene and Alice; and also numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Andre Delaquis, son Rheal; her brothers, Leo, Norbert, Gilbert, Bertrand, Hermain and Rheal (in infancy); her sisters, Stella, Annette and Laurenza; her sisters-in-law, Maximilienne, Rose, Lucille, Audrey, Claire, and Patricia; and by one brother-in-law Frank Williment.

Born in St. Leon, Manitoba, the 20th of August, 1930. Terry was raised in Somerset and later relocated to Winnipeg where she met Andre.  They were married April 9, 1949 and together raised their family in Mariapolis and St. Claude.

Mom was a kind, loyal and gentle lady whose priorities were her family and her home. She made sure we grew up surrounded by love, laughter, family and friendship. Nothing pleased her more than to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Terry was well known for her cooking abilities as owner of a local restaurant and service station in St. Claude. After the passing of her late husband Andre, she again found comfort and companionship with Jean Dequier, 13 years later. They wed and had a happy marriage which lasted until her passing. Terry was passionate about many things such as music, playing cards, and family gatherings. She was a loyal supporter of the local cancer support group and the Golden Age Club. Terry was a resilient woman, who fought many a great battle against cancer and other illnesses. She never gave up and always had a joie de vivre. She will be greatly missed by her family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family would like to offer our sincerest thanks to the staff of St. Boniface Hospital, the doctors and staff of the Heart Failure Clinic (Dr. Shelly Zieroth), the ACF Clinic (Dr. Justin Walters and Dr. Bruce Roe) as well as the Emergency Department Staff, A5 (cardiology), and most notably E5 (Internal Medicine) for their compassion and professionalism offered to the family at the time of her passing.

Funeral services will be held at the St. Claude Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 3, 2010.  Memorial Service at 1:30, Funeral Mass at 2 pm followed by a family interment in the Parish Cemetery with Father Marcel Carrière officiating.

In lieu of flowers Terry’s wishes are for any charitable donations to be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or St. Claude Wellness Center.

Fear not nor grieve at my departure,

You whom I have loved so much,

For my roots and yours

Are forever intertwined.
