Peacefully at the Grace General Hospital, surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 17, 2016, Yvonne Ménard of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away at the age of 90 years.

She leaves to mourn her passing five children, Madeleine Kunzler (Siegfried), Denise Whynot (Roger), Rene Ménard, Claude Ménard (Cathy) and Carolyn Ménard; eight grandchildren, Tanja, Nicole (Hermann), Michelle (Don), André (Michelle), Leanne (Thomas), Tyler (Roberta), Julie and James (Stephanie); five great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Andrew (Brittany), Trinity, Kira and Liam. She also leaves to mourn two sisters, Helen Sigurdson and Florence Masse; one sister-in-law Anne Masse; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by husband Leo Ménard in 2000; and by two sisters and four brothers.

Yvonne, the second youngest of 9 children, was born in St. Claude, Manitoba, to Alphonse Masse and Flora Chabot. Soon after they moved to Starbuck, Manitoba where she spent the rest of her childhood. Together with her sister and best friend, Helen, she attended Normal School in Winnipeg to begin a career as a teacher in rural Manitoba. In 1950 Yvonne married Leo Menard, moving to the St. Eustache farming community to start a family of her own. Mother loved playing games (trivia, crossword puzzles and card games) which she used to teach and amuse us all at the same time. She loved to travel, seeing not only much of Canada and the USA, but the Caribbean, Russia and large section of Europe and the Mediterranean.

Not only did she work as a Farmer’s wife and all that entails, she volunteered in the community by helping at the church, community club and as a 4-H leader. She continued to be a substitute teacher as well. In 1995 Mom and Dad moved to Winnipeg to enjoy their retirement. Time spent with grandchildren, extended family, Senior Cards at St. Charles Church and travel filled their days.

Funeral Services will be held in the St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, 320 St. Charles Street in Winnipeg, on Friday, December 23, 2016. Recitation of the Rosary at 1:30, followed by Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. with Reverend Father Michael Wollbaum officiating. Interment at a later date at the St. Eustache Parish Cemetery. Honourary Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or to a charity of choice.
