Andrew Henry Watson

February 23, 1933 – September 20, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Watson on September 20, 2021 at the age of 88 years at Carman Memorial Hospital.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Pearl, daughters Doris (Reg) Fierback, Sharon (Roy) Tourand, and Lorna (Gerry) Trapp as well as grandchildren Ryan (Lauren) Fierback, Kirk Fierback (Lisa Craigen), Kimberly (Gregg) Streuber, Stephanie Friesen (Jared Kyle) and Nick Tourand, one sister Doreen Fewster, one brother Lyle (Gail) Watson, sisters-in-law Laura Lee and Margaret Watson, along with countless nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by son Raymond, parents Alice and Stan Watson, brother Les (Marion) Watson, sister Frances (Murray) Sargeant and brother-in-law Wendal Fewster.

Andrew was born in Rathwell, Manitoba on February 23, 1933. He attended school at East Treherne and Rathwell. At a young age, he worked as a farm hand and at the local Rathwell garage. He helped his father caretake the Rathwell rink in the winter changing the ice from curling to skating every weekend. He worked for the CPR at the coal dock shovelling coal for the train. He started at CP Rail in 1950 as a section man.

Andrew married Pearl Harrison on October 17, 1953. They lived in Rathwell then moved to Haywood in 1957. Their first child, Doris, was born in 1958.

They moved back to Treherne  in 1959 as Andy was stationed at Treherne sections. He was then stationed at Moore Park for a short time in 1960, then moved to Jim Tarbath’s in Rathwell in 1960 to caretake his house until 1962. They moved to Culross in 1962 where he worked at the section at Murray Park.

In 1963, a baby boy was born. To our sorrow he did not live. In 1964 he started working for N. M. Paterson and worked there for 31 years.

Second daughter Sharon was born in 1966 and third daughter Lorna was born in 1967.

Andy retired from N. M. Paterson in 1995.

Andy and Pearl joined the Carman Bar 8 Square dance club where they enjoyed many years of square and round dancing. Andrew and Pearl moved to Carman in 2009.

Funeral Service will be held at the Rathwell Memorial Hall on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment at the Woodlands Cemetery in Treherne, Manitoba.
