Obituary

Christopher Louie Esquash

“Kabe day dung”

(Rumbling Thunder)

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Christopher Esquash, on July 2, 2023 at the age of 42 years.

He is survived by his mother Yvonne, his children, Brydon, Joziah, Cruz and Quill, his grandson Braxton; siblings Nicholas, Cheyenne (Roddy) and Melissa (Scott); his nephews Kimadden, Odon, Hurricane, Silven, Leland, Aven, Rowan, and niece Sydney; his aunts and uncles, Charlotte, Gerry (Linda), Jim, and Jim M. He was predeceased by his father Elvis.

Chris was born August 31, 1980, in Belcourt, North Dakota. Throughout his short journey her on earth, he touched the lives of many people with his laughter, his singing, his jokes, he had a sense of humor like no other. He had a passion for singing, at powwows, ceremonies, karaoke, in the shower, pretty much any chance he got he would sing. He was introduced to the drum and singing at a young age by his late father Elvis and grandpa Joe and many significant others that travelled with him during the powwow season and Sundance season throughout the years.

Chris enjoyed Bae’s Tae Kwon Do in his younger years he went on to gain his star student title and compete in full contact tournaments. He also got the opportunity to be in commercials, in a movie and modeled a little bit. Chris was a powwow singer at heart, he had the most unique voice, especially when he took the lead.

He had many passions and skills, things he was good at, things he taught himself overall what he truly loved most was his four sons, who he referred to as his “champions” when he was around them, he was content and truly happy.

Chris will be missed dearly, and he will always be remembered as that good powwow singer
