Obituary

Debbie Durand

(née Kowalyshyn)

It is with great sadness that after a long and courageous battle with cancer, we announce the peaceful passing of Debbie Durand on July 23, 2021.

Debra Lynn Marie Durand (nee Kowalyshyn) was born in Winnipeg, MB on May 17, 1961 to her loving parents Bill and Olive Kowalyshyn.  She married her devoted husband Raynald Durand on July 2nd, 1988.

Debbie was full of joy and happiness and always looking to a bright and happy future. She was a proud and loving daughter and a loyal and committed wife.  Ray and Debbie supported each other through sickness and health and always encouraged and supported their sons’ dreams.  Debbie had a feisty attitude but also a soft and loving smile that could change the hearts of any sad soul. She was never shy to say what she believed and always made sure that at the end of the day she was always where she was her happiest, with her family.

Through the years she loved the outdoors, camping with her parents and siblings Dennis and Lorie. This love for the outdoors only grew with the years, and she would then take to camping with her husband Ray and two sons Tadd and Troy.  She was always at peace when out in the wilderness connecting with nature and being with her family.

Debbie had a fulfilling career working with the Louis Riel School Division in Winnipeg. She was always there to help the kids when they were sick or hurt and loved bringing a smile to her coworkers with her quick wit and sense of humor.

Debbie will be forever loved and cherished by her loving husband Raynald, sons Tadd (Michelle) and Troy (Erin), her parents Bill and Olive, siblings Dennis (Jan) and Lorie (Lawrence), her mother-in-law Suzanne, brothers-in-law Jack (Tracy) and Joel (Michelle) and countless other family members and friends.

We want to give a very special thanks to all the nurses and care givers at the Pinawa Hospital that provided exceptional care and helped bring joy to Debbie’s final months while supporting our family even when we were struggling.

In keeping with Debbie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family tribute will be held, flowers are graciously declined.  If you would like to make a donation, please visit Adam’s funeral home website.
