Obituary

Denis Van Den Bussche

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Denis Van Den Bussche on February 24, 2020.  After a courageous three-year journey with ALS, Denis passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family at the Health Sciences Centre.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife Denise Van Den Bussche (née Labossière), daughter Meghan Van Den Bussche, his mother Cécile Payette (née Tremblay) and his siblings, Daren (Bonnie) Van Den Bussche, RoseAnne (Wes) Friesen, RoseLynn (Jules) Poiron, Therese (Dave) McCreery and Simone Major, as well as his mother in-law, Lucille Labossière-Bessette and sister in-law Rosanne Labossière-Gee (Wayne) and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Denis is predeceased by his father George Van Den Bussche, his step father Ronald Payette and his father in-law Maurice Labossière.

Denis was born on June 26, 1965 in Swan Lake Manitoba.  He attended school in Somerset and Bruxelles, and then started his career with CN where he worked for 37 years.

He married the love of his life Denise 26 years ago and they went on to have a beautiful daughter, Meghan.  Watching his little girl grow into the young woman she is now was truly his most treasured pastime. Denis enjoyed the outdoors and had a passion for hunting, quadding, snowmobiling and kickboxing.  He was never one to tap out in kickboxing competitions, and he most certainly never tapped out to ALS -even when he was suffering. Denis loved life and was known for his big blue eyes and infectious laughter. Denis faced the challenge posed by his illness with grace and serenity; qualities so admired and part of everything he undertook.  Throughout his life, Denis touched the lives of many.  Even when diagnosed with ALS, he never complained.  His complete selflessness and willingness to help others will always be remembered, and his legacy will live on. Denis taught us to welcome each new challenge with courage, strength and heroism.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to our homecare workers and the amazing staff on H6 at HSC.  Much gratitude to our friends and family who provided care, visited and supported Denis during his journey.  Without you, we would have been lost in our grief.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Notre Dame de la Nativité Catholic Church in Somerset, Manitoba. Memorial service at 1:30 pm followed by Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. with Father Paulin Akpapupu officiating.
