Obituary

Grégoire Gaudet

Peacefully on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the age of 81, Grégoire Gaudet, formerly of Somerset, Manitoba, passed away, at the Foyer Notre Dame, with his family by his side.  He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father, and Pépère.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 57 years, Lucille (née Fortier); his five children and their spouses:  Glenn (Elaine), Michelle (Alain) Grenier, Kevin (Kendra), Eric (Anna-Maria), and Martin (Manon); and his grandchildren: Justin, Patric (Breanne), Eric (Allyson), Valérie (Dantin), Christine, Jérémie (Alyssa), Kaybree, Luis, Diego, Réjean, Stéphane, and Mathieu.

He also leaves to mourn his siblings Marcien (Debra), Roland (Claire), Bernard (Paulette), Hélène, and Théodore (Susan) and his in-laws, Evelyn, Mariette, Jim and Denis (Denise) and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents Pierre-Albert and Yvette; his brother Alain; his parents-in-law, Léo and Jeanne Fortier; and his brother-in-law Alfred Fortier and sisters-in-law at infancy Diane and Edith.

Greg had three main passions: his family, agriculture, and travel.  He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan and he moved to Somerset to work as an Agricultural Representative in 1963.  In 1966, Greg and Lucille bought her family’s century farm, where they operated a hog and grain farm until his retirement in 2011.  After raising their family, Lucille and Greg travelled extensively visiting some of the most remote areas of the world.  They began by touring the seven continents, and in their later years, they spent their winter months along the coast of Costa Rica.  With Lucille’s health declining, Greg became her caregiver and moved to the Foyer Notre Dame during the pandemic to be by her side.  After months apart, he was grateful to be reunited with the love of his life and he cherished his time with her.  He also loved the care and compassion he received from the staff and he thoroughly enjoyed the company of his foyer family.
