Henri Jean-Louis Dacquay

May 19, 1932 – October 1, 2022

Peacefully in the early morning of October 1st, 2022, Henri Dacquay passed away at the Portage la Prairie General Hospital.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jeanne-Louise (née Le Bris) and Jean-Marie Dacquay, sisters, Hélène (Raynald), Odile and Evelyne and brothers, Hubert (Joanne) and René, as well as his only son, Gilles.

Henri leaves in mourning his devoted wife, Marguerite (née Lacroix), daughters Brigitte (Scott) Davidson, Mireille Theriault, Janine Dacquay, Lucille (Keith) Addison, Paulette (Lionel) de Rocquigny, Denise (Robert) Jacques as well as grandchildren, Eileen (Jarel), Grace (Wyatt), Cameron, Daphne, Megan, Daniel (Lexi), Mathieu, Emily, Kate, Nathalie, Dominic, Nicoline and Ginette and great-grandson, Kai. He will be dearly missed by his surviving sisters, Thérèse (Hubert) Bosc, Roselyne Dacquay, Solange (Norbert) Sibilleau and brothers Normand (Simone), Marcel (Claudette), and as well as his brother-in-law Antoine Magne, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Born in St. Claude, Henri attended technical college in Winnipeg where he gained the skills to return home, open his own successful auto-body repair business and raise a family with Marguerite. No doubt, his sweep of dark hair and handsome smile easily won her heart.

Henri had an unfailing work ethic but there was time for camping trips to Wallace Lake and Rushing River where he passed on his love of the outdoors and nature to his children. He was an avid fisherman and would pour over books to identify birds and flowers. A quick study, he would apply himself whenever a new interest sparked his imagination. He took up archery and though he had his hunting bow at hand, he was more inclined to sit and quietly appreciate a passing deer than to take a shot. He learned to read music well enough to teach himself to play the organ and the tune of “Yellow Bird” easily comes to mind. For a short time he even tried bee keeping.

His aptitude for craftmanship and detailed work can be found in the many model ships and remote- controlled airplanes he built. His friends will remember Henri as an ace curler and his trove of trophies and mementos, including a plaque conferring him a life member of the St. Claude/ Haywood Curling Club, attest to his love of that sport.

In his later years, Henri enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and he will be fondly remembered as a gentle and affectionate father.

Rest easy, Dad. You will live forever in our hearts.

A Private Funeral Services will be held at Adam’s Funeral Home.
