Obituary

Hugh Green

Peacefully at the St. Claude Health Centre on Thursday, March 31, 2022, Hugh Green passed away at the age of 73 years.

He will be forever remembered by his loving wife Denise (née Dupasquier); his children Ronald (Karine), Kevin (Nadine) and Sandra Green (Walter); his grandchildren, Charles, Daphnée, Philippe and Nicolas. Also left to mourn are his brothers and sister, Gary (Roseline) Green, Bob (Marie) Green, George (Chantal) Green, Pat (Ted) Graham; his in-laws, Annette Green, Hank (Jan) Dupasquier, Lorraine (Maurice) Cox, Norbert Duspasquier, André (Yvette) Dupasquier, Gilbert Dupasquier and Norman Dupasquier, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Hugh was predeceased by his parents Harry and Jeanne Green, his parents-in-law Charles and Augustine Dupasquier, by his infant brother, brother Rick Green and niece Karen Joyal.

Hugh was the first child of Harry and Jeanne Green.  Raised in the Roseisle area, Hugh’s earlier years were spent helping out on the family farm.  In his 20s Hugh married the love of his life, Denise.  He would go on to settle in the town of St. Claude as a mechanic, working at Pineau’s for over 35 years.  When the garage closed, he went to Dedieu’s for a little over a year and finished his career at Westward Ford in Portage.  Although a mechanic by day, Hugh’s heart and love of the farm never left him. He would often be found on the family farm helping out his brother Rick and working at Dequier’s hauling cattle along with many hours of field work.  In his retirement he helped Jean and Mario Dion with harvest driving the grain cart and grain trucks.  His passion for mechanics and farming came together in his retirement, helping his eldest son Ron restore and bring back to life several old tractors, including his 1953 McCormick Super W4.

Hugh and Denise celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last July.  They were blessed with 3 beautiful children, Ron, Kevin and Sandra.  As time went on, the family grew to include his daughters in-law Karine and Nadine and his son in-law Wally.  Hugh adored being a grandpa to Charles, Daphnée, Phil and Nico.  He cherished spending as much time as he could with them and could often be found with one of his grandchildren at morning coffee on the weekends, playing with dolls, taking them camping or having epic nerf gun battles and playing mini sticks.

Hugh was a beloved member in the community, serving on many committees such as the Lion’s Club, the St. Claude Recreation Centre, St. Claude Minor Hockey, the St. Claude Curling Club and the Handivan committee.

In his off time, Hugh spent many summers camping.  This included several family vacations in Canada, to the US, and to Lac Lu when his children were younger. In his retirement, a month of camping was spent at Ofty’s with friends.  He loved the time spent with his friends and family.

These past two years were difficult for Hugh, not being able to visit with friends and family, attending his grandchildren’s events or enjoying a coffee and chat at Tall Boys and Klotz’s.

The family would like to thank his family, friends and neighbours for the help and support.  A special thank you to all the staff at the Notre Dame hospital, Portage hospital and especially the St. Claude Health Centre for their care and compassion.
