Jules Bouwman

Peacefully, at the Carman Memorial Hospital, Jules Joseph Bouwman passed away on Wednesday March 29, 2023, at the age of 91 years.

He was predeceased by his parents William and Simone Bouwman and his brothers August and Theodore (Ted) Bouwman.

Jules leaves to mourn his wife of almost 68 years, Monique, his children: Mary-Anne (Ed Lyle), Karen (Conrad Durand), Colleen, Kim (Warner Main) and William; and his grandchildren:  Nicholas (Danielle), Erik, Naomi (Ryan Stoneham), Brooke, Tyler (Lauryn Kinakin), Landon and Theia; and his great grandchildren: Alexie, Mikel, Charlie and Malix, along with many brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Jules was born on October 22, 1931 in Bruxelles, MB and was the son of William and Simone Bouwman. He helped on the family farm from a very young age and moved to Winnipeg when he was 20 years old, where he worked at Labatt’s Brewery, and later as a fuel delivery driver for Coop. He met Monique at the Belgian Club and this is where they fell in love. They were married on May 9, 1955.

It was always Jules’ passion to own his own farm and this became a reality in April of 1962, when he and Monique, and their 2 eldest children, packed up and moved to their farm in Swan Lake. There, they farmed for many years and raised their family of 5 children. He was very proud of his farm, the modern amenities that were added, the hogs they raised, the crops they grew and the many successes they had. Jules and Monique worked hard together and remained on the farm until 2006, at which time they retired in the quiet little community of Carman, MB.

The Funeral Service will be held at Adam’s Funeral Home on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Recitation of the Rosary prior to the service. Lunch will follow and a private family burial will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to thank all the healthcare staff at the Carman Memorial Hospital, for the care and comfort they provided. A special expression of thanks and gratitude is also extended to the neighbours in Carman, who were so caring and helpful during the last several months, helping mom with little tasks, as required, while dad was in the hospital.
