After high school she worked for the Thomson family helping with the household. She spent a summer working at a lodge in Keewatin, Ontario for the McAllister family. She then moved to Winnipeg with her sister Lorraine. There she was employed as a Nurse's Aide at the Misericordia Hospital. She returned to Somerset to marry Cecil on June 28,1958. They lived on the Labossiere family farm west of Somerset. When Cecil became ill Laurette started raising chickens and selling eggs to the hatchery until 1980. After Cecil passed away in 1977, she began working part time at Manitoba Crop Insurance, becoming full time in 1978. She retired from there in April 2001. In the summer of 1991, she moved into her parents' home in Somerset and remained there until September 2022 when she moved into the Somerset Manor.
Laurette had numerous interests and held a wide range of volunteer positions. She was always busy with committee work, running her children to their activities while finding time for herself. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and sewing. She loved her garden and flowers, which she took great pride in. Because of her job she acquired computer knowledge which often made her the go to person for many. She took numerous family trips and bus tours with friends. Those were some of her greatest memories other than the birth of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
