Obituary

Paul Grenier

Peacefully on Friday, October 29, 2021, with his family by his side, at the Notre Dame Foyer, Mr. Paul Grenier passed away at the age of 76 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Noreen (née DeSmet); his children, Edward (Darlene), Jocelyn and Christopher (Christine); his grandchildren, Janine, Alcide (Kenzie), Christian (Josée), Zacharie, Chloe and Kyle. He also leaves to mourn his brother Antoine (Cécile) Grenier; his brother-in-law Octave (Bonnie) DeSmet and sisters-in-law, Eileen Grenier and Marlene (Allen) VanCauwenberghe; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents Alcide and Berthe Grenier; his siblings, Lorraine (Adrien) Lesage and Celestin Grenier; his parents-in-law, Leon and Elizabeth DeSmet; and by his sister-in-law Sandra DeSmet.

Paul was born in Saint-Leon in 1945.  He went to school in Saint-Leon and Somerset and often talked about his days attending College Cleophas.   He married the love of his life, Noreen (nee DeSmet) and they raised 3 children on the homestead, where they farmed until their youngest son, Christopher was married.  At that time, they moved to Saint-Leon.  Life for Paul was all about family and farming. There was nothing he loved to talk about more than farming and his 6 grandkids.  When the grandkids left, he would always say:  "vous reviendrez encore”.

Paul was actively involved in politics for the duration of his life.  He was also President of the CDEM and a Director for MGAC.  He was instrumental in bringing the Saint-Leon Wind Farm to fruition.  He was on many other committees at various points in his life.

Paul played league billiards and could often be heard saying:  “yes, yes, yes!” when he sank the eight ball.  He went many times out West to compete in the VNEA Western Championships.

Paul enjoyed the Friday 5 o’clock beer with the usual gang.  He loved to hunt with his friends and loved taking his grandchildren to his hunting shack.  He played cards, mostly 500.

Paul always had time for family, friends and acquaintances.  His smile will never be forgotten.
