René Deleurme

Peacefully, at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home, on Friday, April 30, 2021, Mr. René Deleurme passed away at the age of 89 years.

Il laisse dans le deuil sa sœur Jeanne (Albert Jamault), Robert, Gertrude et Rolande Hague (Abe Wiebe), ainsi que de nombreux neveux, nièces, parents et amis.

René was predeceased by his mother Thérèse (née Faiziant-Lageat), his father Ambroise, his stepmother Ida Fifi-Hague, as well as her children, Charles, Lloyd, and Irène (Guy Jamault).

Education was René’s life.  His teaching career started in the 1950’s at Beausale, a rural school in Notre-Dame de Lourdes. He then moved to St. Norbert where he taught for several years before becoming principal of the new school.

En 1971, il se dirigea vers St. Vital ou il ouvrit la première école française, l’école Lavallée. Il fonda le programme d’immersion française à St. Vital, ensuite, devint assistant directeur de la division. Il couronna sa carrière en tant que professeur à l’Université de St. Boniface à la faculté d’éducation.

René was forever a history teacher and loved his country. He visited Canada from coast to coast researching and recounting stories. He spent many winters in Florida and his summers in Falcon Lake with his good friends.

René fut passionné de l’histoire. En particulier, il passa d'innombrables heures à retracer ses racines familiales. Ces études le menèrent à entreprendre plusieurs voyages en Europe où il visita les lieux de ses ancêtres.

Private Interment will be held at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish Cemetery on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Alain Guenou officiating.
