René was predeceased by his first wife Arlene (née Armtiage); his parents Gérard and Irène Lussier; his siblings Donald Lussier, Denise (Joe) Payjack, Norma (Edgar) Clark and Lucille (Donald) Rondeau; his inlaws Marion (George) MacKenzie, Kenneth (Del) Armitage, Mike Baete, Angele Lesage, Germaine Gibb, Gerard Vandendorpe and Albert (Margaret) Vandendorpe.

René was born in Somerset where he lived his whole life.  His father built Lussier’s Garage the year he was born so maybe it is no surprise that he became an automotive mechanic. He had a strong work ethic and passion for fixing vehicles, heavy duty machinery and almost everything in between. He started working at the garage at the age of 13 and was still working at the age of 84 when he participated in an interview for Radio Canada. In the interview he made it clear that working at the garage had been a lifelong passion.

René married Arlene Armitage in 1958.  Together they raised three children; Dawn, Glenn, and Jacqueline.  René was a loving and caring husband and father.  The family enjoyed yearly vacations where they built amazing memories and spent wonderful quality time together. They participated in a large variety of activities including curling, camping, Belgium bowling, snowmobiling, playing cards and games like crokinole.

When Arlene struggled with her health in later years, René was by her side all the way.

After the passing of his wife Arlene he was fortunate to reconnect with a friend who became a close companion. René and Mary Robitaille were married in 2004. They lived in Somerset all these years. René was gladly welcomed by Mary’s children as well as all of her extended family. His experience and knowledge on several topics, as well as his kind and caring demeanor, made him a pleasure to be around. Mary’s family thanks René for being a great life long partner for their mother.

He was a devout Catholic and Member of the Knights of Columbus. René travelled with Mary to visit amazing places such as Medjugorje and Fatima where miracles had happened.

He was always open to participate in many new and exciting activities. He enjoyed spending time with his family; and was involved in supporting the passions of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

René died on January 9, 2022 at the age of 87.  He will be greatly missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.
