Obituary

Rita Tremorin
(née Côté)

Peacefully at her residence in St. Claude on January 11, 2021, Rita Tremorin passed away at the age of 82 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Lionel (Carole) Tremorin, Henri (Doris) Tremorin, Jacqueline (Jimmy) Middleton and Suzanne (Arthur) Middleton; her grandchildren, Marc, Ginette (Patrick), Nathalie (Nathan), Lisa (Kevin), Micheline (Ryan), Christopher (Annette), Kimberley (Joel), Adam, Justin, Maeghan, Karley (Bryce), Tyler and Jenna (Justin); her great-grandchildren, Tessa, Rheanne, Emmett, Joelle, T.J., Logan, Eli, Taryn, Maxx, Dreyden, Leah, Emily, Brigette, Ezlyn, Easton, Zaiya, Rowen and Asher; as well as a large extended family and many friends.

She is predeceased by her husband Henri Sr., her children Marie and Roger Tremorin and grandson Patrick Tremorin.

Rita Irene Marie was born July 10, 1938 at the Steinbach Hospital. She the 13th child, a number she has always thought to be lucky. The family lived in Moody, Manitoba until she was 4 years old and then moved to Vassar where she went to school until grade 7. She was then sent to live in a convent with the Grey nuns in Ste. Anne, Manitoba where she completed grade 9. At sixteen, Rita quit school and got a job in Winnipeg as a housekeeper. The woman she worked for found her a job at Hospice Taché, and then moved on to work for a jean factory and at Perths. When she turned 18, she joined the Air Force Reserves for one year.

In 1958, at the age of 20, Rita moved to St. Claude to help her sister Lucy who was expecting her daughter Annette. This is where she met Henri. She moved back to Winnipeg for a year where she worked at Loblaws. After Rita and Henri were married on July 25, 1959, she continued to work in Winnipeg at Dent's Bacon. In May of 1960, Rita and Henri moved back to St. Claude where they started their family. They had 6 children. Their first child, Lionel, was born in July 1960. In September 1961, their second son, Henri was born. Their next children both went to full term, Marie was still born and Roger had a heart defect. In June 1965, their daughter Jacqueline was born and they had their last child Suzanne in April 1967.

Rita was a stay at home mom for 11 years but in 1971, she had to find a job as Henri had a bad accident at Modern Dairies: he had fallen off a ladder and shattered his ankle. She found work as a waitress at the St. Claude Commercial Hotel, but when she was laid off after 6 months, went to work as a bartender for the St. Claude Motor Hotel. In 1973, Rita was offered a job at the post office as a post master part time assistant. In 1984, she was promoted to postmaster and continued to work there until her retirement in 2003 at the age of 65. She worked for the post office for 30 years.

Rita enjoyed baseball and also loved to curl. She also volunteered as the treasurer of the Ladies Curling Committee for many years. Rita and Henri enjoyed spending time at Hall's Beach in Amaranth. In July 1992, they bought a beach front lot on Lake Manitoba and built a cottage with their children.

Other hobbies Rita enjoyed were playing slots on Facebook, going on bus tours to the Casinos of Winnipeg once a month and she loved to babysit her grandkids and great grandkids. Our family will remember her making the best mashed potatoes and “farce”...not stuffing, and her gravy was second to none-unfortunately she used every pot and strainer in the house to make it!  So many memories to cherish as you live on in our hearts!
