Obituary

Robert (Bob) Chapellaz

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Bob Chapellaz, who passed away peacefully at the Portage District General Hospital on Thursday, October 8, 2020, at the age of 73 years with his loving wife Odette at his side.

He leaves to mourn his wife Odette (née Ménard), his son Marc (Allison) Chapellaz and  his daughter Lynne Chapellaz and his two granddaughters Ainsley and Sophie Chapellaz.  He is also survived by his brother Roger (Marlene) Chapellaz, his sister Doreen Boon and his in-laws, Elaine (Paul) Gaultier, James (Cathie) Barwick, Irene (Leonard) Gendre, André (Dianne) Ménard, Rita (Georges) Lavoie, Louise (Wayne) Doell, Craig Krantz as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

Bob was predeceased by his parents Louis and Yvette (née Baron), his brother Donald, his sister Linda Barwick, brother in-law Peter Boon, two infant siblings as well as his parents in-law Louis and Alice Ménard.

Bob was born on September 21, 1947 in St. Claude, Manitoba.  He spent the majority of his life in St. Claude.  He married Odette on May 13, 1972 and welcomed son Marc in 1975 and daughter Lynne in 1977.  He started working for his Dad driving school bus as a young adult then worked at Deere Lodge and Lion’s Prairie Manor as an orderly before settling in at the St. Claude Pavillon for a 21 year career. After his retirement he took on a full time bus run with King Transportation and retired from that in 2017.  Through the years he volunteered with the St. Claude Ambulance, St. Claude Fire Department and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

Upon retirement Bob and Odette established a seasonal site at Miller’s Campground where they made many new friends and thoroughly enjoyed many morning coffees, happy hours and camp fires.  In 2019 Bob and Odette sold their family home in St. Claude and moved into an apartment in Portage where once again they made new friends and enjoyed carefree living.

Family was always so important to Dad and he was so proud of all of us.  Dad left us far too early and we will miss him tremendously.  We have all gained a special guardian angel.  We love you so much Dad, rest easy, your work here is done.

We would like to thank Dr. Boyd and the staff at the Portage District General Hospital Medical Ward for the compassion and care they gave Dad and also for helping and caring for Mom as she was the only visitor allowed in to see him and went to see him 1-3 times daily for the past 6 weeks.
