Obituary

Robert du Bourg

Peacefully on March 31, 2018 at the Portage Hospital, Robert du Bourg passed away with family by his side at the age of 72 years, exactly 9 years after losing his beloved wife of 39 years.

He is survived by his children: Monique Grégoire (Gilles), Marc (Jennifer), Michelle (Christian Bissonnette); grandchildren: Jérémie, Danica, Stephanie, Will, Aaron, Anastasia, Alex, Annie, Mathieu, Noah and Zac; mother-in-law, Lucie Bernard; sisters: Odile Lucyshyn and Thérèse Kapelus (Nestor); brothers: Raymond (Fern Kerr), Claude (Rosemary) and Gilles (Nancy Gose); brothers-in-law: Louis Bernard and Reg Bernard (Lil) and sister-in-law Annette Goddard (Paul); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Robert was predeceased by his wife Rachelle, his parents, Jean and Simone, his father-in-law, Albert Bernard and his brother-in-law, Elmer Lucyshyn.

Robert was born in 1945 in St. Claude and raised on the family farm just outside of town.  After leaving town for several years, he and Rachelle married in 1969 and they later returned home to St. Claude to raise their family.

In his younger years, Bob was a regular golfer in the summer, avid curler in the winter and always enjoyed playing cards.  He was handy around the house and was always, always making jokes or making plays on words to get you laughing – or rolling your eyes.  He was very well known for his witty and spontaneous humour.  His jokes were often geared towards the little kids and will always be fondly remembered – and repeated.  He really enjoyed solving Sudoku puzzles and especially crosswords, the more difficult the better.

He loved his country drives in the summer and never hesitated to drop in on family and friends nearby for a short visit and to crack a joke or two.  He was a huge fan of the Jets and especially the Bombers; he taught his kids and grandkids at a young age to cheer “Gooo Big Blue”.

A special thank you to Dr. Finney for the excellent care and for making Robert feel like he was a friend.  Thank you to all staff on the medical ward at portage hospital for the care over his hospitals stays and especially in the last several weeks.

Funeral services will be held at the St. Claude Catholic Church on Thursday April 5, 2018. Eulogy and video will be begin at 1:30 pm followed by Mass at 2 p.m. Interment will follow Mass at the St. Claude Parish Cemetery.
