Peacefully at the Notre Dame Foyer on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, Mr. Roland Devos of Bruxelles, MB passed away at the age of 82 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Pamela (née Welch); his sons, John (Lucy) and Andrew (Azure-Dee); his grandchildren, Kayson, Julia, Angèle and Caleb. He also leaves to mourn his siblings, Mary-Jane Bogaert, Lillian (Gary) Rummery and Denis (Debra) Devos; Pamela’s family in New Zealand; Diane Welch, John (Lorraine) Welch, and Tony (Margaret) Welch, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents Edouard Devos and Germaine (née Lecoq); his siblings, Louis (Lorette) Devos and Agnes (John) Simoens and brother-in-law Marcel Bogaert.

Roland Antoine Devos was born on September 30, 1938 in Bruxelles, MB. He attended elementary school at St. Urbain and High School at Ste. Marie. After leaving school Roland farmed with his Dad until 1968, when he took over the home farm at NW 5-6-11. Roland met Pamela in Winnipeg in 1977, they married on December 9, 1978 in Winnipeg, MB. Roland and Pamela continued in mixed farming with grain and cattle. Their first son John was born in 1979 followed by Andrew in 1983. Roland’s first grandchild, Julia Devos, was born July 9, 2019, and grandson, Kayson Devos, was born December 27, 2019.

Roland was active in the community.  He was a 4-H member and won many awards especially in the grain section.  He, along with his brother Louis, won championships at the Manitoba Royal and Canadian Royal Winter Fairs.

Roland had a passion for hockey.  He was a talented young player and followed the sport for many years including building backyard rinks and enrolling his boys in minor hockey.  He spearheaded the planning and construction of the Bruxelles community rink.

He spent many hours organizing and playing cards with his friends at the friendship center.  He loved to Belgian bowl and could be found in bowling tournaments around the area and at the Belgian Club.  He was an avid hunter, whether it be geese, ducks, gophers, muskrats, or deer, and loved chasing the “big buck”.  Reminiscing over hunting stories was enjoyed by all.

Dad enjoyed his life on the farm.
