Mathieu Vigier

Surrounded by his family and friends, Mathieu Gérald Denis Vigier, 15 years old, of Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB, passed away September 12, 2009 at the Children’s Hospital.

Mathieu was born February 21, 1994, the beloved son of Donald and Rachel (Druwé) Vigier and big brother to Marc, Nicolas and Joel who loved him more than words can express. He is predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Mémère Pauline (Levasseur) Druwé. He also leaves his maternal grandfather, Pépère Denis Druwé, of Winnipeg; and his paternal grandparents, Pépère Gérald Vigier and Mémère Huguette (Labossière) Vigier of Notre Dame de Lourdes, MB. He is also survived by several loving aunts, uncles and cousins, his closest buddy Brody Chabbert and numerous friends and team mates that will miss him tremendously as well as many coaches and mentors that will miss his leadership on the ice. Mathieu attended Collège régional Notre Dame where he will leave several classmates and teachers whose lives he has touched with his kind spirit.

Matt was a gifted and talented athlete and excelled in the game of hockey. From young boy to young man he skated on the ice with a love and passion that could not be equaled by many. As a young boy Matt played Minor Hockey as a Notre Dame Hawk. He recently played MHSAA hockey with the Mountain Mustangs where as a rookie player he made quite an impact on the ice. Matt also played AAA hockey with the Pembina Valley Hawks Spring Team where many relationships were made from team mates all over Manitoba, Ontario and North Dakota. This year, Matt’s dreams were being realized. He was honored by being drafted and offered a signing contract by the Moose Jaw Warriors (WHL) and the Swan Valley Stampeeders (MJHL) and was a prospect for Team Manitoba who will be competing in the Western Canada Games this fall. He dreamed big, played hard and gave everything he had on the ice.

Matt had a special gift to light up a room with his presence. He lived life to the fullest seizing every opportunity he was offered. He was a happy young man and lived his live with a sparkle in his eye and a smile on his face. He will be missed by many and he will continue to be loved today, tomorrow and forever.

“Skate free Matt… skate free and happy on God’s pond in Heaven. We love you so much and we are so very proud of you. Shake and Bake Buddy… Nous t’aimerons toujours la nuit comme le jour et tant que nous vivions tu seras notre garçon.”

The family would like to thank the incredible amount of support witnessed on Matt Vigier’s Praying Wall (Facebook). It is the thoughts and prayers of others that help his closest friends and family to find the strength to go on without him by their side.

Funeral Services will be held at the Notre Dame Arena on Saturday, September 19, 2009.  Memorial Services at 1 p.m., Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. followed by family interment in the Parish Cemetery.  Pallbearers: Brody Chabbert, Mitch Chanel, Denis Delaquis, Daniel Lesage, Stephan Viger and Patrick Hague.
